Shrink Sleeve Film for Craft Beer Cans & Bottles

Craft beer shrink sleeves are 360-degree printed PETG film labels heat-shrunk onto cans or bottles, letting breweries decorate standard bright (unprinted) cans in small runs instead of ordering large minimums of pre-printed cans. As a film manufacturer, we supply the PETG rollstock that label converters print and seam into those sleeves — not finished labels.

Why craft breweries decorate with shrink sleeves

Shrink sleeves let a brewery run tiny, frequent SKUs — seasonals, one-off collabs, small-batch releases — without committing to the high minimum order quantities that pre-printed aluminum cans require. A converter prints a 360-degree graphic onto clear or white PETG film, seams it into a tube, and applies it to standard bright cans or bottles, so the same blank can carries a different design every week. This is where our role begins: breweries and their label converters buy PETG shrink film by the roll, and we manufacture that film.

Which film and shrink rate for cans vs bottles

Container geometry decides the shrink rate. A standard aluminum beverage can is a near-straight cylinder with a slight neck-in at the top, so it needs only low-to-moderate transverse shrink (TD ≥65–75%) to lock cleanly over the chime and neck without wrinkling. Contoured or embossed craft bottles and glass longnecks have shoulders and necks that demand higher shrink — TD ≥75–80%. Machine-direction shrink stays low across all our grades (MD ≤3.0%) so the artwork keeps its height and vertical registration.

From our Clear PETG spec: TD ≥65 / 75 / 80% by grade (ASTM D 1204, 95°C 10s), MD ≤3.0%, thickness 30–60 μm.

Why converters choose PETG over PVC for beer graphics

PETG has replaced PVC as the default sleeve material for beverage brands, and beer is no exception. PETG delivers higher optical clarity for the glossy, high-density spot colors craft labels rely on, releases no chlorine on incineration, and is recyclable in the PET stream — a real advantage for breweries with sustainability messaging on the can. It accepts gravure, flexo, and UV inkjet ink directly (surface tension ≥38 mN/m) with no corona pre-treatment, which keeps the converter's process simple. For returnable glass programs, our Bidirectional wash-off film lets the label detach cleanly in the bottle-wash line.

How we supply the film (for converters & breweries)

We manufacture Clear PETG and White PETG shrink film on 3 production lines and ship rolls slit to width (200–2000 mm) in 30–60 μm gauges. Standard orders start at 1 ton (MOQ 1–3 tons), which suits craft-scale volumes, and every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis. Breweries planning their first sleeve run should specify the can/bottle profile, target sleeve height, and print method to their label converter — we then supply the matching grade. We do not print or seam the sleeves; we supply the film that does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell printed craft beer sleeves or the film?
We manufacture and sell the PETG shrink film in rolls. Printing the 360-degree artwork and seaming the film into finished sleeves is done by your label converter. If you are a brewery, your converter buys our film; if you are a converter, you buy it directly to print and supply your brewery customers.
Which shrink rate fits a standard aluminum craft can?
Standard bright cans are near-straight cylinders with a small neck-in, so TD ≥65–75% usually gives a clean, wrinkle-free wrap over the chime and top. Contoured bottles or full cap-to-base coverage on glass longnecks generally need TD ≥80%.
Can I get clear film for a "naked can" look and white film for full coverage?
Yes. Clear PETG keeps the aluminum or glass visible behind the print for a transparent-window effect, while White PETG (transmittance ≤30%) gives a solid opaque base for dense graphics and consistent color. Both print with gravure, flexo, or UV inkjet without corona treatment.
What is the minimum order for craft-scale runs?
Most standard PETG orders start at 1 ton (MOQ 1–3 tons depending on grade, thickness, width, and color), which fits small and mid-size breweries. We offer A4 sheet samples and short rolls (300 m or 2000 m) so your converter can trial the film before a full order.
Is PETG better than PVC for beer labels?
For most brands, yes: PETG offers higher clarity and gloss, contains no chlorine, and is recyclable in the PET stream, whereas PVC releases chlorine on incineration and is being phased out by many beverage brands. See our PETG vs PVC comparison for the full breakdown.
